Powerful falls on the Monday River near its mouth on the Paraná, dropping about forty metres in several side-by-side columns into a deep forested gorge, with thick spray and rainbows on sunny days, among Paraguay's finest falls. Around them is a municipal park with paths and lookouts on the gorge rim, stairs and a glass lift down towards the base for a close view, activities such as a zip line over the gorge, restaurants and picnic areas. They are less famous than the nearby Iguazú Falls on the border with Brazil and Argentina, but quieter and closer, and are often combined with a visit to the area. Their strength changes with the rains. The UK government advises caution in border Alto Paraná department for crime and smuggling, so travel by taxi or a reliable tour and avoid walking around Ciudad del Este at night. Paraguayan summers are very hot and humid from November to March, so carry water and a hat; winter is milder for sightseeing.

The park itself is calm, but the border department is a caution area, so use a taxi or reliable tour and avoid walking in the city at night.
