A small, quiet fishing village on the Pacific coast of Veraguas that has become the gateway to Coiba National Park and one of Panama's best-known surf spots, with a famous rocky point break drawing experienced surfers from around the world. Around the village runs a beautiful coast of dark volcanic headlands, sandy coves and green hills, best known being long, calm Playa El Estero at a small river mouth, good for walks and swimming on calm days. Sunsets over the ocean and distant islands are superb. The village is simple, with one main road, small guesthouses, restaurants and dive and surf centres organising trips to Coiba and its islands. Cash machines are scarce, so bring enough money. The road there is long, via the town of Soná. Waves are strong on some beaches, so swim where others do.
