A long curve of fine white sand on the south-east coast of Phu Quoc, with clear, calm turquoise water often ranked among the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam. Its name means «Star Beach», said to come from the starfish once seen in its shallows. The east coast is sheltered from the south-west monsoon, so Sao Beach stays calm for much of the year, and the sea shelves gently, which suits children. A few beach restaurants rent loungers and serve seafood, and jet skis and boats operate from the middle of the beach; the two ends are quieter. The beach is about 25 km from Duong Dong town and 10 km north of An Thoi, so it combines easily with the Hon Thom cable car and the Phu Quoc Prison on a day in the south of the island. Bring sun protection, since there is little natural shade.
