An angklung for everyone.
A cultural centre for Sundanese music and arts founded by the artist Udjo Ngalagena and his wife in 1966 to preserve the angklung, a musical instrument made of bamboo tubes that UNESCO lists as intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Its highlight is the daily afternoon show, where children and young people perform traditional Sundanese dance and music, then hand an angklung to every visitor and the conductor leads them in playing well-known songs from around the world together, a joyful group experience that ends with the audience dancing. The centre also has a bamboo instrument workshop and a shop. Show tickets for foreigners are around one hundred thousand rupiah or a little more, and booking ahead helps for groups. The main show is every afternoon. It is one of Bandung's most enjoyable cultural experiences for families and children, taking about two hours. Arrive a little early for a good seat.
