The White Hall rewards palace lovers, and the tour is short and cheap. But honestly said: Stuttgarters themselves come for terrace, sunset and picnic โ all entirely free. Decide by your schedule.
The Solitude road curving down to town was a legendary car and motorcycle circuit until 1965, revived biennially as the historic 'Solitude Revival' with period machines. If your dates match, it is quite a sight.
A direct bus reaches it in fifteen minutes, so access is easy. As a half-day outing โ say after a Wilhelma morning โ clearly yes. For the palace alone on a rushed pass-through โ skippable.

Schloss Solitude โ "solitude" โ is the rococo jewel above Stuttgart: a graceful white hunting palace built by Duke Carl Eugen in the 1760s on a plateau's edge, home of his extravagant festivities and the showcase of his glory โ until the duchy nearly went bankrupt, the extravagance stopped, and the beauty remained. The central White Hall under the dome is among German rococo's most delicate spaces, seen with the ducal apartments on a short tour. But half the magic is outside: from the palace terrace your eye runs over forests to distant Ludwigsburg along the legendary Solitude Allee โ a dead-straight thirteen-kilometre line the duke cut to link his two palaces. An international arts academy now rings the palace, and the spot is Stuttgart's favourite sunset destination โ a quiet palace, a view and picnic lawns fifteen minutes from town.
