The park behind Nymphenburg Palace is very large — around 180 hectares — and completely free to enter. It is among the best walking in Munich. The design is двух-part: the section near the palace is formal and French, with straight avenues, basins and canals, then it shifts gradually into free English parkland of trees, meadows and lakes that look natural. Four small pavilions are scattered through it, each built for a different purpose: a hunting lodge, a bath house, a Chinese-style pavilion and an artificial hermitage. They have separate tickets and close in winter, but walking around them is free. The straight canal in front of the palace sometimes freezes in a hard winter and people skate on it. In summer swans swim there and locals sit out on the grass.

No. The whole park is free and open, and people who live in Munich walk and run here daily. Tickets are only for the palace itself and the four small pavilions.
An hour covers the part nearest the palace. Three hours for a full circuit taking in the four pavilions and the lakes. The park is far larger than it looks from the palace.
