Seclantás is a small village on the banks of the Calchaquí river in Salta province, a few metres from Route 40, about 25 kilometres south of Cachi and 18 from Molinos. It is known as the «cradle of the Salta poncho» and a land of weavers, and parts of it were declared a National Historic Place in 1975. Its adobe houses have galleries and roofs of cane covered with mud, and in 1814 the patriots of the valleys gathered here to support the independence army. North of the village, the Camino de los Artesanos runs along provincial Route 55 between farms where weavers work at wooden looms, making ponchos, shawls and blankets from llama and sheep wool; visitors can call in and buy directly. Wandering is free, and the artisans' road is a lovely alternative to Route 40 for reaching Cachi.
