Segla is a sharp mountain peak in the north of Senja island in Troms county, northern Norway, overlooking the Mefjord near the fishing village of Fjordgård, about 55 km southwest of Tromsø in a straight line. Senja is Norway's second-largest island outside Svalbard, at over 1,586 square kilometres, with a wild, mountainous western side facing the Atlantic and a gentler, greener eastern side. Fjordgård is a small fishing village surrounded by high, steep mountains and linked to the rest of the island by three road tunnels. Segla rises like a sharp grey stone sail, one side dropping to the fjord in a sheer cliff while its other slopes fall away in green meadows. From the top a view opens over blue fjords, jagged mountains and islands out to the ocean, bathed in the midnight sun in summer. Hikers climb to the summit on a steep path from near Fjordgård, or settle for the neighbouring peak of Hesten for the finest view of Segla itself. The path is exposed near the edge, so go in clear weather; summer is the season.
