**A mountain-edge walk above the whole Amalfi Coast — the sea six hundred metres below you the entire way** — from Agerola to Nocelle above Positano. ⚠ **Its name comes from legend**: the ***Sentiero degli Dei*** — the road the gods took, by local story, to rescue Odysseus from the sirens. ✅ **It runs some 7–8 km** and takes **three to four hours**, ⚠ **and the correct direction is from Agerola (Bomerano) down to Nocelle** — **the reverse is a punishing climb**. ✅ **The view is continuous**: **the whole coast, Positano, the Li Galli islets and Capri on the horizon**. ⚠ **It ends with about 1,500 steps down into Positano** — **the hardest part on the knees**. ⚠ **And it is unshaded.**
The whole coast, Positano and Capri on the horizon.
Vines and lemons on slopes above the sea.
A village hanging above Positano at the path's end.
Bomerano, Agerola, 84010 Salerno, Italy
**You can if you are fit and used to a few hours of mountain walking — and should not attempt it otherwise.** ✅ **What it actually demands**: **3–4 hours of continuous walking** on **uneven rocky ground**, **with repeated climbing and descent** (⚠ **not a continuous downhill, as is sometimes said**), **and narrow sections near the cliff edge** ⚠ **without railings**; **then 1,500 steps down** at the end. ⚠ **Who should not attempt it**: **anyone afraid of heights** (⚠ **some sections are genuinely exposed**), **anyone with knee trouble** (descent is harder on the knee than climbing), **anyone unused to walking for hours**, **and small children**. ✅ **⚠ First alternative — walk half of it**: **start at Bomerano, walk an hour and a half to the finest viewpoints and turn back** — ✅ **you get the view for half the effort**. ✅ **Second — avoid the 1,500 steps**: **continue to Nocelle and take the local bus** down to Positano. ✅ **Third — the view without the walk**: **the terrace at Villa Cimbrone in Ravello** ✅ **gives you a view no less magnificent for no effort at all**.
