Serra do Espírito Santo is one of Jalapão's plateaus, between the Jalapão dunes and the town of Mateiros. It rises to about 900 metres against a surrounding average of about 500, giving one of the best-known views in central Brazil. The trail to the top is about 2 km: it starts gently and then steepens, climbing more than 200 metres in under a kilometre, and takes 40 to 60 minutes, with wooden benches along the way. Visitors come for sunrise or sunset from the top of the plateau. The car park at the trailhead is about 30 km from Mateiros, roughly fifty minutes on a bumpy dirt road, so go by four-wheel drive or with an agency.
