A peaceful botanical garden in Mont Fleuri on the edge of the capital, Victoria, founded at the start of the twentieth century and run by the Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority. It is the easiest place to see the islands' rare plants if you have no time for Praslin. Its best-known trees are coco de mer palms, which grow wild only on Praslin and Curieuse and bear the largest seeds in the plant kingdom. Alongside them are other endemic palms, spice and tropical fruit trees, and an orchid garden. The garden has a pen of giant tortoises, large fruit bats hang from its trees, a small stream runs between the shaded paths, and there is a little café. Tickets are SCR 250 for non-residents over twelve, children under twelve go free, and it opens daily from 8 am to 5 pm, with last entry at 4.30 pm, per the parks authority.
