The main museum of Shandong province and one of the largest in China, filling a building of 82,900 square metres with more than 210,000 objects; its roots go back to a museum founded by a British missionary in Qingzhou in 1887. Highlights include relics of the Neolithic Dawenkou and Longshan cultures, Shang and Zhou bronzes, Han stone carvings and Ming and Qing paintings, while the natural history section shows fossils from Shanwang and a skeleton of the dinosaur Shantungosaurus. Entry is free with real-name advance booking through the museum's WeChat account or website, Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm with last entry at 4 pm, closed on Mondays except public holidays, per visitor guides.
