The world's largest planetarium by size of building, opened in 2021 in Lingang, the new coastal city at the south-eastern tip of Shanghai; part of the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, it was designed by the New York firm Ennead without a single straight line or right angle, its curves meant to echo the orbits and laws of the universe. Inside, galleries on the solar system, the stars and space exploration surround giant models of the Earth, Moon and planets, a meteorite collection and a model of the Chang'e 4 lunar lander, and a dome theatre shows films. Tickets are CNY 30, with the dome theatre CNY 40 extra; they are sold online only, three days ahead, with passport details. It is open from 9.30 am to 5 pm, last entry 4 pm, to 8 pm on Saturdays and public holidays, and closed on Mondays, per visitor guides. Metro Line 16 reaches Lingang, but allow about 90 minutes each way.
