One of China's largest fishing ports, on the south-east of the main island of the Zhoushan archipelago; it is a national central fishing port, home to the country's largest fishing fleet and a major wholesale market for fish. The port stretches along the waterfront between the island and the islets facing it, lined with hundreds of colourful fishing boats flying their flags, and boats come home loaded with fish and seafood, so visitors watch the bustle of the harbour, the catch being unloaded. In the evening a seafood night market runs along the waterfront, lined with restaurants and stalls cooking fresh fish, crab and shellfish. Nearby, Zhujiajian island has wide sandy beaches. Walking the port and the night market is free, and the market opens every evening, per visitor guides.

The night market serves fresh fish and seafood but halal restaurants are rare, so order fish and crab cooked without pork or lard, and ask about ingredients.
