A valley some 20 km long cut by the Juma River through the northern edge of the Taihang Mountains, south-west of Beijing; it is the only large karst landscape of its kind in north China, its sharp limestone peaks shaped in the same way as Guilin's, and it is a national geopark. Its name, Shidu, means «ten ferries», after ten boat crossings on the river that have long since become bridges. Cliffs, peaks and green bends follow one another along the valley, and Beijingers come in summer for bamboo rafting and river rafting and for bungee jumping, while an old railway threads through with its bridges and tunnels. The valley is free to enter and each activity is paid separately: a bamboo raft is about CNY 40 an hour and a bungee jump about 200 to 300, per visitor guides. The drive from Beijing takes about two hours.

Like Guilin's.
Bridges and tunnels.
South-west Fangshan District, about 100 km south-west of central Beijing
Yes for lovers of nature and summer water sports, as it is the karst scenery closest to Beijing and free to enter, but give it a full day, as the drive takes about two hours.
