Four beaches
On the quiet east coast.

A group of green islands south of Mersing, the largest being Sibu Besar, about six kilometres long and one kilometre wide, covered in tropical vegetation, with four main beaches on its east coast. Smaller islands lie around it: Sibu Tengah, Sibu Kukus and Sibu Hujung. The area was declared a marine park in 1993, so its waters are rich in reefs and fish, good for snorkelling, kayaking and swimming. The island is quiet and far from the crowds, with small resorts suited to families and anyone looking for rest. The marine park conservation fee is thirty ringgit for foreign adults. The best season is March to October, as the monsoon roughens the sea in winter and some resorts close. Boats leave Tanjung Leman jetty south of Mersing and take about half an hour, usually arranged by the resort; Tanjung Leman is about two hours' drive from Johor Bahru, making Sibu one of the closest east-coast islands to Singapore and Johor.
