Sidi Kaouki is a small coastal village on the Atlantic in Essaouira Province, Marrakech-Safi, about 18 km south of Essaouira in a straight line and about 25 km by road. The village has become a known spot for surfing and windsurfing in Morocco, as the wind is stronger here than in Essaouira itself, which also suits kitesurfing. Its exposed beach gets fairly reliable surf all year, and the swell picks up in winter, the peak surfing season. A wide golden sand beach stretches under a blue sky, white waves break on low rocks, and an old white shrine with a small dome, which gives the village its name, stands on the shore. The village itself is just a few scattered houses. Visitors surf or learn to, walk for miles along the sand, and some ride camels or horses on the beach. The village is very quiet, the sunsets are superb, and the wind blows most of the year.
