**Sithonia for nature and quiet, Kassandra for facilities and nightlife โ and the difference is very large.** โ **Sithonia (the middle)**: **far more beautiful** โ pine forest descending to the water, **dozens of small coves**, small villages **and much less building**; โ **and the natural pine shade** on the beaches is **a rare advantage in Greece**. โ **The trade-off**: **fewer facilities**, longer distances, **a car obligatory**, **limited nightlife** and less accommodation choice. โ **Kassandra (the west)**: **fully developed** โ large hotels, resorts, organised beaches with umbrellas and restaurants, **and strong nightlife** (Kallithea and Hanioti especially); โ **and closer to Thessaloniki** (about an hour and a half) **and easier without a car**. โ **The trade-off**: **very crowded** in August, **dense building** that erodes the natural beauty, and higher prices. โ **The rule**: **a family wanting comfort and facilities without a car โ Kassandra**; **anyone wanting nature, coves and quiet with a car โ Sithonia**. โ **A week? **Halkidiki's middle leg: a coast road looping a whole peninsula between pine coves and turquoise water** โ the finest coastal country in northern Greece. Halkidiki has **three legs** running into the sea: **Kassandra** (the most developed and crowded), **Sithonia** (the loveliest and least built), and **Athos** (forbidden without a permit). โ **Sithonia has been kept**: pine forest reaching the water, **dozens of small coves**, some with no road, **and small villages** rather than large resort towns. โ **Its ring road** around the peninsula runs about **110 km** โ one of the great coast roads in Greece, each bend revealing another bay. โ Its best-known beaches are **Kavourotripes**, **Kalogria** and **Armenistis**, โ and the natural harbour of **Porto Koufo**. โ Here a car is **not an option but a requirement**.
