The country residence of the last Emir of Bukhara, Alim Khan, whose name means «palace like the stars and the moon». It was built between 1912 and 1918 by Bukhara's finest craftsmen together with two Russian engineers, so its architecture, decoration and layout blend European tradition with local decorative art. In 1927, shortly after the fall of the Emirate of Bukhara, it became a museum of decorative and applied arts. Its halls hold palace furniture of the 19th and 20th centuries, Chinese and Japanese porcelain from the 14th to the 20th, Russian objets d'art, jewellery by Bukhara craftsmen, and gold-embroidered panels and saddle cloths. In the garden stand the harem pavilion by a large pool, a small summer mosque with a wooden tower, and peacocks wandering among the trees. Tickets are about 60,000 som, per visitor guides. It is about four kilometres north of the city, easily reached by taxi.
