A gondola climbing from central Queenstown to the top of Bob's Peak above the town, opened in 1967 as the Skyline company's first venture, with the most famous view in New Zealand over Lake Wakatipu and the jagged Remarkables range. Glass cabins rise in minutes over pine forest, and from the summit deck you see the small town on the shore of the blue lake, mountains capped with snow in winter, and the old steamship crossing the water. At the top is the famous luge, small engineless carts that visitors ride down winding tarmac tracks before returning by chairlift, a family-friendly activity. There is also a restaurant with a view, walking tracks and other adventure activities. A return gondola ticket is about NZ$66 to NZ$69 per adult, more with luge rides, per visitor guides. The best time to go up is just before sunset.
