Snake Gorge, also called Wadi Bimah, is a narrow canyon in Wadi Bani Awf in Ad Dakhiliyah, Oman, near the village of Bilad Sayt in the Al Hajar Mountains, about 34 km northwest of Nizwa and 110 km west of Muscat in a straight line. The gorge is popular with hikers and adventurers, as its route involves jumps from small rocks into water pools and natural water slides in the rock. But it is prone to flash floods and has seen drownings, so the Royal Oman Police send out weather warnings to reduce the risk. Smooth grey and white rock walls twist through a deep, narrow passage, polished by water into wavy shapes, with clear green pools collecting on the floor between huge boulders. From above, the gorge looks like a deep winding crack in the bare mountains. Visitors walk through the gorge, swimming and jumping into the pools; the route needs good fitness and shoes suited to water, and going with a guide is best. Never enter the gorge if rain is possible, and access is by four-wheel drive.
