Söderåsen National Park lies on the Söderåsen ridge in Skåne, southern Sweden, about 30 km east of Helsingborg and some 51 km northeast of Malmö in a straight line. The ridge holds Skåne's highest point, at 212 metres. Söderåsen is a raised block of bedrock formed by faulting, running from Röstånga in the southeast to Åstorp in the northwest and cut by deep fissure valleys. The last ice sheet left it about 14,000 years ago. In the park, the Kopparhatten viewpoint at 200 metres is its highest point, surrounded by ravines up to 90 metres deep, and old streams such as the Skäralid run through it. Dense beech forest cloaks the slopes and turns gold and orange in autumn, mirrored in the round Oden Lake and in quiet pools on the valley floors. Streams run between moss-covered rocks, and the viewpoints look out over the ravines and the plains beyond. Visitors follow marked trails between the valleys and viewpoints and climb to Kopparhatten for the view from above. Autumn is the finest season for the beech colours, and some trails are steep, so wear good walking shoes.
