The oldest mosque in Shanghai, in Songjiang District south-west of the city, founded by a Muslim governor in the Zhizheng era at the end of the Yuan dynasty, between 1341 and 1368. First called the «Mosque of the True Religion», it keeps the layout of Yuan and Ming mosques. Most of its buildings follow traditional Chinese style, among them the north gate, the Bangke minaret, two teaching halls and the prayer hall of 1407, while the mihrab chamber dates from the Yuan: built of brick in Arab style, with a dome inside and a double Chinese roof outside, it is the oldest surviving Islamic building in Shanghai. Conservation work on the mosque was completed in 2022. Tickets cost CNY 6, open from 8 am to 4 pm, per visitor guides; visitors are asked to dress modestly, keep quiet and respect prayer times.
