A natural rock arch and cave in ancient rainforest in Springbrook National Park, in the Gold Coast's mountain hinterland, where a waterfall plunges through a hole in the cave roof into a pool below, an enchanting scene like a fantasy world. The park is part of the UNESCO-listed Gondwana Rainforests, remnants of the forests that covered the ancient supercontinent millions of years ago. A short paved loop walk reaches the cave through giant trees, ferns and streams. It is loveliest at night, when thousands of glow-worms light the cave walls with twinkling blue dots like stars; visitors come after dark on guided tours or on their own, switching off their torches out of respect. Entry is free and swimming in the pool is forbidden. It is a day trip from the coast by car on winding mountain roads, combined with Springbrook's other falls and lookouts.
