St Joseph's Cathedral is a Catholic cathedral in central Liepaja on the west coast of Latvia. It is known for its tall pointed spire, seen from the streets of the old town, and for the painted ceiling decoration inside. A small stone church dedicated to St Joseph was built on the site in 1747. A much larger neo-Romanesque building, designed by the architect Louis Melville, replaced it around the turn of the 20th century, though sources differ on the year it was finished. It later became the cathedral of the Catholic diocese of Liepaja. From outside you see a yellow brick church with tall arched windows, a high main tower topped by a sharp spire, and smaller towers around it. A quiet street and tall trees lie in front, and the spire stands out against a blue sky above the town's wooden houses. It is in central Liepaja, a short walk from the old streets. It is a working place of worship, so please keep quiet.
