Green-and-white ferries that have crossed Victoria Harbour between Tsim Sha Tsui and Central since the late nineteenth century; the company was founded in 1888 as the Kowloon Ferry Company and took its present name, Star Ferry, in 1898. Despite the tunnels and trains that now cross the harbour, the ferry is still one of the cheapest and most beautiful rides in the world: in a few minutes on the water the whole Hong Kong Island skyline slides past and the towers draw closer and closer. Every ferry has a name ending in «Star», such as «Solar Star» and «Morning Star», and the wooden seats with flip-over backrests take passengers back to another era. The Tsim Sha Tsui pier is right next to the Clock Tower. The upper-deck fare is HK$5 on weekdays and HK$6.5 at weekends and on holidays, per the company's website, and you can pay with an Octopus card. The best crossing is at sunset or after dark, when the towers light up.
