A majestic twin waterfall on the edge of the Bolaven Plateau, where two streams side by side plunge more than a hundred metres into a deep, densely forested gorge in the Dong Hua Sao protected area. It is one of the tallest and finest falls in Laos. It is seen from a viewpoint on the opposite rim: two long white threads falling into the green and vanishing in the gorge's spray. Mist often rises from the bottom in the morning, veiling part of it before clearing. In the rainy season the flow swells and its roar carries far. The plateau itself is a lovely trip: cool uplands at about a thousand metres, covered with coffee farms the French introduced in the early 20th century, and small villages selling fresh coffee by the road. Tad Yuang falls are a kilometre away. Trails to the gorge floor are steep and slippery, so go down only with a guide. The entry fee is small and sources differ on it. Rural Laos still holds unexploded ordnance from the 1960s-70s war, so keep to marked paths and never touch metal objects, per UK travel advice.

Bolaven Plateau, about 38 km east of Pakse on the Paksong road
The flow is strongest in and just after the rainy season, to November; early morning is best before mist fills the gorge.
