The town beach of Tanjung Pandan, Belitung island's capital, on its west coast, facing west and so famous for sunsets over the sea; townspeople come every evening to stroll, sit and watch the sun go down behind small islands. The beach has a promenade, gardens and benches, seafood and drink stalls, and children's playgrounds. The water is shallow and calm and retreats far at low tide, revealing wet sand that mirrors the sunset colours, lovely for walks and photos. The beach is free and is the nearest to the town's hotels and restaurants, minutes from the centre. Make it the end of your day after returning from the island trip or Tanjung Tinggi Beach, sit down to grilled fish at sunset, then wander the town centre and its old coffee shops.

The town is known for old coffee shops run for decades by Chinese-descended families, where coffee is boiled in big pots, a pleasant local experience after sunset.
