A green freshwater lake ringed by forested limestone hills on an island south of Langkawi, separated from the sea by only a thin wall of rock. Its name comes from a local legend, and the hills around it look from a distance like a woman lying on her back, which is where the name comes from. Visitors arrive by boat on the popular island-hopping tour, then climb a short flight of steps through the forest to the lake. There you can swim in calm water in life jackets, or rent pedal boats and kayaks. Macaques wait on the steps and around the jetty and grab bags and food, so keep your hands empty. Lake entry is around RM 20 for foreign adults and RM 10 for children, on top of the island-hopping tour itself, usually RM 40 to 80 per person on a shared boat, which often includes a beach and a stop to watch eagles being fed. The whole tour takes about four hours, and it is best booked in the morning before the heat and the crowds. The water is fresh and deep in places, so do not swim without a life jacket.
