Țaul Park is a historic arboretum park on the south side of Țaul village in northern Moldova, covering 46.2 hectares, a protected area and a monument of landscape architecture. It is one of the largest and best-planned parks in the country, about 200 km from Chișinău and about 47 km in a straight line from Soroca Fortress. It was founded by the banker Andrei Pommer, of French origin, after he married the daughter of a local landowner. He hired the garden engineer Ipolit Vladislavski-Padalka, a graduate of the Odessa horticultural school, to choose and lay out the land. Between 1901 and 1912 the buildings were finished and the largest park in Bessarabia at the time was planted, though the main mansion was left unfinished. Restoration of the mansion and park began in 2013. Paths wind between stands of big trees and wide green meadows, and small reed-fringed ponds are crossed by a wooden bridge. In spring the trees come into soft green leaf and are mirrored in the still water. The park is large, so allow at least two hours and wear comfortable shoes. It is far from the capital, so combine it with a visit to Soroca in the north.
