A sea of mist
Over the forest.
A rocky outcrop on the edge of a deep, forested valley at the top of Djuanda Forest Park north-east of Bandung, now one of West Java's best-known sunrise viewpoints. From its edge a dense green forest spreads under a sea of morning mist, with mountains beyond. Visitors arrive before dawn to watch the sun rise over the mist as the valley gradually turns gold. The rock platform is fenced, and it is reached from the car park by a short walk or a local motorbike ride on the rough last stretch. The fee is higher for foreigners than for locals. It is very cold before dawn and crowded at weekends. Come half an hour before sunrise on a clear day, with a jacket and a torch. Do not cross the barriers, as the drop is very high.
