A small, calm forest lake near the top of Puncak Pass, some fourteen hundred metres up, whose name means coloured lake, because its water shifts between green, blue and brown with the light, the weather and the trees and sky reflected in it. A Sundanese legend tells of a princess and a necklace of coloured jewels that fell into the water. Dense forest where monkeys live surrounds the lake, a wooden walkway runs along its shore, and tea plantations look down from the hills above. It is a quiet spot for a short outing and a walk among the trees, with platforms for photographs. Entry is a token fee of around fifteen thousand rupiah at the local rate, possibly more for foreigners. The monkeys here are bold, so keep food out of sight. The visit is short, half an hour to an hour, so make it a stop on a Puncak Pass tour with the tea gardens and the At-Ta'awun mosque. Mist gathers in the afternoon, so mornings are clearer.
