Port Dickson's best-known and liveliest beach, about ten kilometres south of the town. Port Dickson as a whole is the seaside closest to Kuala Lumpur, roughly an hour and a half by car, which is why people from the capital flock here at weekends. The beach is soft sand with fairly calm water on the Strait of Malacca, suited to swimming and playing with children, with a promenade, a square, restaurants and stalls along it, and activities such as horse rides, jet skis and boats. From here you can see the headland of Tanjung Tuan and its lighthouse to the south. The beach is free and always open. It gets very crowded at weekends and on public holidays, while on weekdays it is quiet. At low tide the water recedes a long way, so check the tides before swimming. The best times are late afternoon and sunset over the strait. For a quieter beach, try the hotel beaches along the coast, or the small Tanjung Tuan beach by the lighthouse.
