Federación is a small town on the shore of the Salto Grande reservoir in northeast Entre Ríos, with an unusual story: when the dam was built on the Uruguay river in the late 1970s, its water flooded most of the old town, so its people were moved to a new town built a few kilometres away and opened on 25 March 1979. The new town became famous for its large thermal park, one of the biggest in Argentina, with open-air and covered pools of hot water at different temperatures among gardens and trees, plus a children's water park included in the ticket. Argentines come all year, especially in winter. The thermal park opens daily 08:00-20:00. It makes a day trip from Concordia or a short stay in the town's hotels.
