Rosario de la Frontera, a town in the south of Salta province on the road from Tucumán, is home to one of Argentina's oldest and best-known hot-spring resorts. Its springs rise at between 34 and 50 °C, waters long valued for easing aching muscles, helping circulation and relieving stress. The historic Hotel Termas, a grand spa hotel dating from the late nineteenth century, stands in wooded grounds outside the town, with thermal pools, baths and treatments as well as space for walks and sport; for decades it was the favourite retreat of families from all over the north. The town itself is a quiet farming centre. The thermal pools belong to the hotel, so ask about day use for non-guests before going. It lies about 170 kilometres south of Salta, a stop on the road between Salta and Tucumán.
