The cave the whole world came to know in the summer of 2018, when twelve boys from a local football team and their coach were trapped after rain flooded its passages, and millions followed an international rescue lasting more than two weeks that brought them all out alive, at the cost of a Thai diver's life. It is one of Thailand's longest caves, in a forested limestone mountain that local legend calls the «Sleeping Lady». In dry seasons visitors may enter only the large first chamber, accompanied by guides, and it closes in the rainy season. The park has a visitor centre with an exhibition on the rescue, a statue of the hero diver, and forest pools and streams. The park opens in the daytime, with a small fee to enter the cave when it is open. Entry rules and times change with weather and safety, so check before going. A day trip usually combined with the border town of Mae Sai and Doi Tung. The place is moving, telling a story of courage, and suits families with older children.
