The Theatro Cinema Guarany is a historic picture house in the centre of the mountain town of Triunfo, opened in 1922 and counted among the main sights of the sertão of Pernambuco. The large building stands out among the surrounding houses with its striking façade overlooking the small lake at the heart of town. Some sources describe it as one of the oldest cinemas still working in Brazil, and for a full century it has been the centre of the town's cultural life, combining film screenings, theatre and events. It was among the buildings surveyed in the bid to list Triunfo's historic centre as protected heritage. The façade can be admired at any time on a walk around the lake, while catching a show or seeing the hall depends on the local programme. Activity peaks during festivals and in the cooler winter season, when visitors come to enjoy the town's mild climate.
