Timbó is a small town of about 46,000 people in the Itajaí Valley of Santa Catarina, at 68 metres where the Benedito and Cedros rivers meet, a short drive from Pomerode and Blumenau. German immigrants led by Frederico Donner settled here in 1869, coming from the Blumenau colony, and were later joined by Italian immigrants, so that its people today are roughly half of each origin. Most Germans came from Pomerania and Hamburg, and the Italians from Chiavenna and Trento; it became a municipality in 1934. Its sights include the Music Museum, opened in 2004 in the Hammermeister ballroom built in the early twentieth century, with more than a thousand pieces including instruments, scores, technical drawings and books spanning five centuries, as well as the Henry Paul park.
