Tinuy-an is a wide, multi-tiered waterfall in green forest on Mindanao in the southern Philippines. A broad curtain of white water spills down rock steps into a wide green pool, with thick forest all around. The falls are 95 m wide and 55 m high and are nicknamed the little Niagara of the Philippines. The water flows over three tiers, with a fourth hidden from view, and it is said to be the widest waterfall in the country. In the morning, between 9 and 11, a rainbow often forms over it. It is run jointly by Bislig's tourism office and the Manobo Tribal Council. Its name comes from a local word for «a place you keep coming back to». You stand in front of the falls watching the water spread over the rock, and take a raft close to the cascades to feel the spray. The falls are about 25 km in a straight line southwest of Hinatuan. The UK advises against all travel to western and central Mindanao and all but essential travel to the rest of the island, so check current advice before you go.
