The Trapiche Eliezer Levy, or Amazon River Pier, is a 386-metre walkway reaching out into the Amazon from the Macapá waterfront. Mayor Eliezer Levy began it in 1936 and it opened in 1945, in his second term, replacing the Pedra do Guindaste, where most boats had tied up, before other ports in turn replaced it. After many repairs it was rebuilt in reinforced concrete, and today it has a small electric tram for visitors, an ice-cream shop, a covered area, a passenger landing, a restaurant and a small square. It offers an open view across the breadth of the Amazon in front of the city, and walking it is free.
