The Tren de las Sierras, the Sierras Train, is a historic railway climbing from Córdoba city into the Punilla valley, past rocky slopes and the San Roque reservoir, then through valley towns such as Cosquín, Santa María and La Falda to Capilla del Monte. It was authorised in 1888 and its first sections opened in 1891, at first carrying freight and passengers between Córdoba and Cruz del Eje. The full trip is slow and scenic, about six hours, through tunnels, over river bridges and along valley edges, stopping at old stations with pitched roofs and wooden platforms. Valley people use it daily, and visitors ride it for the views. In September 2026 there were five daily services, with different times on weekdays and weekends; the highest fare for the full trip is ARS 7,000, and you can ride a short stretch between two towns.
