An elegant three-storey museum on the edge of the Lake Gardens, devoted to the life of Tuanku Ja'afar, ruler of Negeri Sembilan from 1967 until his death in 2008 and Malaysia's tenth king from 1994 to 1999. It opened in 2014 in a white building in modern colonial style. The halls follow his life from a childhood in Seri Menanti and schooling at the Malay College in Kuala Kangsar and then in Britain, through diplomatic postings in Cairo and Lagos in the 1960s, to his accession to the throne. They show photographs of him with world leaders, decorations and state gifts, royal costumes, and paintings from his own hand. Among the most engaging displays are mementoes of his love of sport, cricket and golf above all, and his personal car collection. It opens from ten in the morning to half past four, Tuesday to Sunday, closing on Mondays; an adult ticket is about thirty ringgit, half that for children, students and seniors. It is within walking distance of Seremban railway station, so it is easy to reach by train from Kuala Lumpur. Combine it in one walk with the neighbouring Lake Gardens and the state government building with its Minangkabau roofs.
