A year-round mountain resort north of the town of Gabala, on the forested slopes of the Greater Caucasus, named after Mount Tufandag. It is one of Azerbaijan's best-known mountain destinations, drawing visitors from Baku and abroad. Cable cars climb from the resort base through the forests to the heights, opening up wide views of towering snowy peaks, green valleys and the Gabala plain below. In winter, slopes open for beginner and intermediate skiers. In summer the heights become a place for walking, picnics and photography, with restaurants and cafés with views and viewing platforms. The air stays mild at the top even in the hot summer months. Wandering the resort base is free, while the cable cars, skiing and equipment hire are priced by the resort and vary by season. The cable cars may stop in strong winds, so check before you go.
