Tvrdoš is a Serbian Orthodox monastery near Trebinje in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, about 5 km west of the centre in a straight line, on the bank of the Trebišnjica river. It was founded at the end of the 15th or early 16th century. The monastery was the seat of the bishops of Herzegovina until the late 17th century, and its present building dates from 1924. Today it is known for its wine, especially from the local Vranac and Žilavka grapes, and for its cellars, one of them from the 15th century, which have become a popular attraction. It is on Bosnia and Herzegovina's provisional list of national monuments. The grey stone church has an open, arched bell gable, surrounded by stone buildings with climbing plants, an old red house and a square stone tower with a tiled roof, among cypresses and neat gardens. Visitors walk the monastery grounds, admire the church and towers from outside, and visit the old stone wine cellars to taste the monastery's wine. Modest dress is expected.
