Bursa Teleferik
Half an hour over beech forest from Teferrüç to the hotel zone, with a stop at the Sarıalan meadow.
In August, while Bursa gasps at thirty-plus degrees, half an hour in a cable-car gondola is enough to have you hunting for a jacket. That is Uludağ, the «Great Mountain» the Greeks knew as the Mysian Olympus and, at 2,543 m, the highest point in the whole Marmara region: Turkey's oldest and best-known ski resort in winter, the nearest cool refuge to Istanbul in summer. You can see it from every street in town; going up is what earns the day. The easy way is the Bursa Teleferik from Teferrüç station in the Yıldırım district: eight-seat cabins climb over beech and pine for about thirty minutes, passing Kadıyayla and pausing at Sarıalan, a picnic meadow with restaurants, toilets and room to sprawl, before finishing at Kurbağakaya beside the hotel zone at roughly 1,900 m. A 2026 round trip is 500 TL per adult and 250 TL for students, and small children ride free (the cut-off was birth year 2017 at the last tariff), which makes a full family outing cheaper than the setting suggests. Driving means a paved road of endless hairpins, about 36 km and close to an hour from the centre, a per-car fee at the Karabelen gate, and in winter no passage without chains. In the snow season, roughly December to March, the mountain becomes a small town of hotels and chairlifts; a day lift pass for 2025-26 is about 1,700 TL online or 1,950 TL at the kiosk, and rentals and instructors work out of the hotels. Non-skiers are well served: wooden sleds for the children, snowmobiles, and a fireplace with tea. Summer is another story: mild air, forest paths, snow lingering in the high gullies into May, and hotels that are half-empty and far cheaper. Three honest warnings. Cable-car queues on winter weekends and Eid holidays can reach two hours, so go up before ten or pick a weekday. Hotel-zone restaurants are expensive for what they are, and sled and snowmobile touts pounce the moment you step off; agree the price before you ride. And it is ten degrees or more colder up top than in the city even in August, so bring a layer for everyone. Pushchairs work at Sarıalan and around the hotels; beyond that it is snow and mud.

Cable car, unless you are staying at a hotel on the mountain: the road is close to an hour of hairpins, parking in the hotel zone is chaos on weekends, and in winter anyone without chains is turned back at the Karabelen gate. The cable car's only drawback is a queue that can stretch on holidays, so go up early.
Yes if you want cool air, views and forest, no if snow is the point: by August there is none near the hotels, and what you see in May is patches high up. Children enjoy the cable car and Sarıalan either way, and half a day is enough.
