A natural sandstone arch carved by the wind in the south of the Wadi Rum Protected Area, rising about 15 m above the ground, and one of the most photographed formations in the desert. You can scramble up the rounded rock it stands on and walk out onto the arch. The climb is short but needs care and proper shoes, as the stone is smooth in places, and it is not advised in wind or for anyone uneasy with heights. From the top the view stretches over red dunes and the surrounding mountains, and from below you can frame the sky through the opening. The bridge is a stop on the 4x4 tours of the southern reserve. For a bigger challenge, the Burdah rock bridge is the highest in the reserve at about 80 m, but reaching it takes a climb of several hours with a guide.
Carved by wind.
With care.
All around.
Southern Wadi Rum Protected Area
Yes, a short scramble up the rounded rock beneath it leads onto the arch, but take care, wear proper shoes and skip it when it's windy.
