With children or anyone interested in machinery, clearly yes — there is nothing like it in the region. Baden-Baden is a quiet thermal spa town of an entirely different character, and this museum gives a contrasting day. Twenty kilometres is a short distance by car or local train.

A museum devoted to the Unimog, the German multi-purpose vehicle first built after the Second World War, in Gaggenau where it was made. The idea behind the Unimog explains why it merits a museum: it was designed in a ruined Germany to be a farm machine and a truck at once, pulling a plough and driving on the road, because the country could not afford two machines. From there it developed into a vehicle used in firefighting, armies, roadworks and remote regions all over the world. The displays are dozens of vehicles from every decade, from the earliest models to recent ones, along with the implements and equipment mounted on them. What really distinguishes the visit is the off-road course outside: you can ride in a Unimog climbing steep slopes and tilting at angles that look impossible. That is an experience people talk about afterwards, and it is why many come. It is not in Baden-Baden: Gaggenau lies about twenty kilometres east in the Murg valley, reached by car or local train.
