A film studio and theme park in Universal City near Hollywood, one of the oldest and most famous Hollywood studios still in use, and the first Universal Studios resort in the world. It welcomed 8.7 million guests in 2024. Its story begins in 1914, when Carl Laemmle bought a ranch in the San Fernando Valley and founded Universal City as a huge studio, and it soon began welcoming visitors to watch filming behind the scenes. Its best-known attraction is the Studio Tour, a tram ride past real film sets and staged scenes such as the plane crash from «War of the Worlds», along with rides and lands based on famous films, including the worlds of Harry Potter and Nintendo, and live shows. One-day tickets start from about $109 online and vary by date, per visitor guides. Give it a full day and buy tickets in advance; restaurants offer vegetarian and seafood choices for halal diners.
