A major theme park in west Osaka, opened on 31 March 2001, the first Universal Studios park to open outside the United States. It welcomed more than 11 million guests in its first year, and 16 million in 2024, making it the third most visited theme park in the world and the first in Asia. The park is divided into themed areas based on famous films and characters, including New York and Hollywood-style streets and areas inspired by video games and animation, with roller coasters, live shows and parades. It is laid out around an inner lagoon, with many restaurants and shops, and hotels and the Universal CityWalk shopping area next door. An adult one-day pass costs roughly 8,400 to 11,900 yen depending on the date, per visitor guides; buying online in advance is wise, and priority Express passes can be essential on busy days. Take the JR line to Universal City Station.
