The Vale do Capão is a valley about ten kilometres long between mountains, in the village of Caeté-Açu, also called «Capão», in the municipality of Palmeiras, in the north of Chapada Diamantina National Park in central Bahia. The valley lies between imposing ridges that form the flanks of the geological fold known as the Pai Inácio anticline, and runs to the Gerais do Vieira, which separate it from the Vale do Pati. It holds three of the main «witness hills» of the Sincorá range, as geologists call them: Morro do Camelo and Pai Inácio to the north and the Morrão within it, all in a line. The Vale do Capão guides' association handles visitors and charges for access to some trails. Its highlights, besides the Morrão, include the famous Fumaça waterfall, nearly four hundred metres high, and smaller falls such as Purificação. The village itself, with its small guesthouses, is a relaxed base for exploring the area over a few days.
